During the late eighties the club was relaunched as an alternative gay club. The No.1 Club was nicknamed the Gay Hacienda during the chemical explosion of the early nineties and showed Manchester gay scene that it wasn't all about drag queens playing Sister Sledge and leather clones dancing to Hazel Dean. The No.1 was the first British nightclub to play the hit house track, Ride On Time by Black Box. Many people say there wouldn't have been the Canal Street, as it's known today if it wasn't for the No.1.
In 2002 the No1 Club was renamed One Central Street and for the last seven years' it carved out a market as "the most stylish bar in Manchester.
As the ultimate glamorous disco, the new No.1 club offers a new exciting addition to the eclectic scene starting with a bang courtesy of the north's most famous gay club promoters Federation. They have taken over the dance floor on a Saturday night with their now infamous night Federation presents Freakshow.
